Damaged facet joints

Facet joints help stabilize the spine and limit excessive motion. Facet Syndrome is the deterioration of those interlocking joints and the protective capsule that surrounds them. Facet syndrome occurs when the facet joints become stressed and damaged. This damage can occur from everyday wear and tear or from a traumatic injury to the spine.

Facet joints are lined with extremely sensitive neurons that send severe pain signals to the brain when irritated. Damage to the facet joints also produces and painful inflammatory response in the body.

Cervical symptoms include:

  •  Pain in the Neck and Shoulders
  •  Discomfort in the Upper or Middle Back
  •  Headaches
  •  Limited Range of Motion

Lumbar symptoms include:

  •  Pain in the Low Back
  •  Discomfort in the Upper or Middle Back
  •  Swelling and Edema
  •  Limited Range of Motion

Biomechanics of the spine has a lot to do with the health of the facet joints.  Chiropractic care aims to correct any structural or biomechanical dysfunction.  Rest and ice also helps with inflammation.
